Hard rock con tracce di blues neopsichedelico ma non troppo interessante. Peccato perché si tratta certamente di buoni musicisti, ma che chiamassero qualcuno a scrivergli i brani: i primi venti minuti sono di una noia suprema, poi le cose un po' migliorano, e "The Formula" è un piccolo capolavoro. Se vi piace la musica solida, quadrata e granitica, con un sound un po' stoner, probabilmente potrete provare gusto a sentire questo disco. Ma a tutti quelli che non sono soliti fare colazione con succo d'arancia e mattoni, non mi sento di consigliarlo.

CRASHES TO LIGHT, MINUTES TO ITS FALL

Una volta i dischi duravano 35-45 minuti. Ogni tanto, un artista particolarmente folle o ambizioso confezionava un disco doppio, che poteva addirittura arrivare a sfiorare i 70 minuti. Poi arrivò il cd e visto che c'era spazio libero, tanto valeva riempirlo fino all'orlo. Quindi nacquero album come questo: 72 minuti e 54 secondi di post-rock strumentale, in cui Glenn Jones, una sorta di John Fahey elettrificato e riverberato, ci mostra la sua tecnica attraverso una serie di paesaggi sonori talvolta di sapore pinkfloydiano ("K") e talvolta mahavishniano ("A voice through a cloud", "On the roof of the world"). Se avesse dovuto infilare la sua musica in un vinile, probabilmente ne avrebbe tirato fuori un lavoro incisivo. Così invece si passa il tempo rompendosi i coglioni in attesa del momento interessante successivo - momenti che abbondano, grazie al cielo. Ma non cancellano la rottura di coglioni, né il carattere frammentario e altalenante dell'album. Ascoltarlo di fila prestando attenzione è, credo, impossibile.
